Bleeding Heart Dinner for 70-75 leavers, Thursday 29th January 2004.
With military organisation Robert Horvath took on the challenge of organising a dinner for the leavers of 1970-75. With help from Fr Luke, Hugh Bett, Nick Barnett and Nick Butterworth a fantastic evening was had by all. In Robert's words:
"The most important thing about organising an evening for a few friends to get together and tell some old campaign stories is to make sure that the location, the food and the wine are taken for granted. On Thursday 29th February 50 such friends met and did just that. Covering a span of some 6 year groups with round tables of 8 or so these former classmates met in the old crypt of St Eheldreda's Church in Ely Place, just off Hatton Garden in London. We contacted in all some 90 boys and girls and, but for the snowfall on the Wednesday, we probably would have had at least another dozen on the night. Some people had not seen each other for 25 years or more and probably would have walked past one another in the street had they passed that very morning. But that night it was different, there was a warmth, an openeness, an exchange of information and experiences and an attentiveness to the conversations around them. I enjoyed the evening enormously, albeit it passed quickly and I drank far too well.
My thanks to Georges Dugarin, our host, and to all his staff for a very good meal (particularly the 5 spit-roast suckling pigs served up on platters) and some very nice wines; to Father Kit for the use of the Crypt and of course to Father Kevin and Father Luke for joining us. Well done to all the attendees for making the effort particularly those who travelled up from the country."
