We have had another two matched since my last report to you and it has been a rollercoaster ride!! We travelled to Bec Old Boys on 28 Jan for an all or nothing encounter. We had a number of players missing through injury and holiday and while the scrum was fairly intact the back line suffered a bit with people playing out of position. The early signs in the game were good though and we had a couple of penalty opportunities. From then on though, it was backs to the wall type stuff. Bec hit us from all angles and in particular had an inside centre who seemed to be from another planet as we all bounced off him in the tackle. The end of the game saw us down 54-6. The score suggests much more of a drubbing than the match felt like. None the less, the whole team were pretty down hearted as we knew promotion had now become a lot harder. It will now come down to others results. All we can do is win the rest of our games and win them well.
The next game was against strugglers Lightwater. We played them on Saturday at home. We had a couple of players out again, but fielded a strong team. We won the game 88 - 7. The biggest win so far this season. We had some tremendous performances throughout the team, and James Baybutt scored four tries showing some unbelievable speed. Hugo Sanders was a real force at number 8 and Will Taylor and Dean Hurley put themselves about at prop, both ending up on the score sheet.
Next week we play Raynes Park away. A big game again, they have lost the same number of games as us and just points difference separates us. We must win!
All the best,
Rob
