3 out of 3 wins for WOBS RFC

Another WOBS RFC win to report. We beat Raynes Park 19-11. The background to the game is that they are a team who really fancy themselves, they play good, hard and fast rugby and are always hard to beat. They are a team with many antipodeans in it and you have to be on top of your game. Last season the fixture proved to be a real turning point in our fortunes. We were languishing near the bottom of the table and they were league leaders. We really focused for the game and beat them away from home. We knew that the game would be as tough this year.

The first half proved fairly gritty, and we finished the first 40 minutes 3-8 down. However, the team felt that the game was ours to win, and the second half brought with it a new belief and determination. The back row of Chris Jackson, James Burt and Hugo Sanders were outstanding with a supporter noting that they were the real difference between the teams. The front row was solid, with new Worth leaver Mark Lane making his debut in fine style - a real prospect for the future. Andy Tyler marshalled the game with his usual authority and captained the team in my absence. Andy Pollen scored from the move of the match and all in all we should be very happy with the result. We have now achieved three wins from three games, but we have some tough games ahead, notably Bec Old Boys on 22nd October and Old Walcountians on 12 November.
