WOBS RFC win first league game of season

WOBS RFC 48 - REIGATE RFC 12
by WOBS RFC 1st XV captain Rob Carson

We had our first league game of the season on Saturday against Reigate and I am pleased to report a convincing win. Last year, Reigate beat us 24-50. This time we were fitter, faster and altogether a better team.

We had an awesome first half and raced to a 41-0 lead at half time. It was the best 40 minutes of rugby I have seen a WOBS team play. We then had a rush of injuries at the start of the first half, with Dean Hurley, Tom Calnan and Alex Podbury joining Richard Gough on the sideline. A result of this was that we had to play for 30 minutes in the second half, up hill, with only 14 men.

Considering this, the fact that we only lost the second half two tries to one is a real testament to our fitness and commitment. The team is really enthused and excited about the rest of the season. As importantly, we have had an influx of young, fresh WOBS including Andy Tyler, Tom Holt, Andy Pollen, James Burt, Adrian Pring, Will Taylor, Dan Pring, Alex Podbury, James Bruce and Dan Mourad (all ex Worth) who are very keen, very fit and very good!

In addition, Andy Tyler has agreed to be the team Vice Captain, adding greatly to the input for the team and as an extra link to new younger players.
