Formed in 1993, the Worthians RFC is the most established of the Worthian sporting clubs. We operate as an autonomous section of Worth Society, who support our activities.
Over the years the club has grown stronger, helped by the large numbers of younger old boys playing for us, and is beginning to deliver some very exciting rugby. We now have more players playing more regularly and there is a great team spirit.
Although primarily aimed to serve the needs of old boys of the school, the Club Rules allow for a small proportion of non-Worth players, who can be proposed as members after playing-in for the Club. We welcome new members of all standards.
We are affiliated with the RFU and the Surrey RFU. Games are played in the region around the south-west of London and in Surrey. The Worthians RFC 1st XV currently play in Surrey Division 3. We also have a 2nd XV team. As well as the League and Cup we also participate in occasional sevens events and the odd tour.
In 2000 a sponsorship deal with our 'London Headquarters' - The Southern Cross public house in New Kings Road, Parson's Green, Fulham - enabled us to secure a four-year lease for the use of the ground and club-house at Whitely Village, Burwood Road, Walton-On-Thames, Surrey.
Training takes place at the start of the season, on Wednesdays at 1900, in Battersea Park. After matches, some Worthians may be found with one of our sponsors, the landlord of The Southern Cross. Occasionally, training takes place there as well.
All Worthians of Worth School are welcome to join Worthians RFC at any time. An annual membership fee of £30 is payable, reduced to £15 if you are a student or unemployed. For school leavers, Worthians RFC offers free membership for the first year.
Rather support than play? No problem, we need plenty of support! Non-playing members are very welcome - we have a good number of off-pitch social events!
