WOBS Class of 73-78 : 30-Year Reunion.  Mickey Morrissey (R'77) and Charlie Hamshaw-Thomas (B'78) organised a 30-Year Reunion on Thursday 15th May 2008 at the Groucho Club, 45 Dean Street, Soho, London W1D 4QB.  Around 30 Worthians attended for drinks and 25 sat down for dinner afterwards.  Mickey has forwarded some of the e-mails received after the Event into the Worth Society Office - from which it is evident that a great time was had by everyone who attended and many old friendships were re-kindled.  Mickey is in the process of writing a Review, which we will post here for you to read as soon as it is available.

Mass at St Mary Moorfields, City of London.  Worth old boys were invited, for the first time, to join the old boys of Downside and Ampleforth for Mass on Friday 9th May 2008 at St Mary Moorfields, 4-5 Eldon Street, London EC2M 7LS.  Mass was followed by lunch.  We received the following e-mail into the Worth Society office from John Bennett (R'81) who attended this Event :

"A small number of Worth Old Boys joined fellow Downside and Ampleforth alumni  for Mass at St Mary Moorfields. Fr Kevin celebrated the Mass with Fr Peter Newby, the parish priest at St Mary's and Fr Edward from Ampleforth and the church was packed to the rafters.

A very pleasant and convivial lunch followed in the hall beneath the church. The Mass and lunch are an annual affair and this was the first year that Worthians have been invited to attend. Defininitely one to put in the diary for next year!

London Memorial Service for Fra' Andrew Bertie RIP.  Held on Tuesday 22nd April 2008 at Brompton Oratory, Brompton Road, London SW7 1EX. Click here to read Fra' Andrew Bertie's Obituary written by Father Stephen Ortiger for the 2007/8 issue of The Blue Paper.  Cardinal Cormac presided and Archbishop Mario Conti of Glasgow said the Mass.  The Service was very well attended and Father Kevin identified around 45 Worthians and six members of staff from Worth among the crowds.  We have received some very moving feedback into the Worth Society office from Worthians in attendance - including the following from Claude Keith (G'69) that sums up the feeling of many:

"I was delighted to attend this morning the beautiful Memorial Service for Fra' Andrew Bertie at the Oratory. Thank you for drawing this event to my attention. I was delighted to see a large attendance from Worth old boys, many of whom I assumed must be from my era!! It was a marvellous occasion and one that was fitting for such a distinguished and good man."

St Benedict's Day Mass - was celebrated by Father Kevin on Thursday 10th April at Corpus Christi, Maiden Lane, Covent Garden, London WC2E 7NB.  Tom Hammond-Davies (C'03) travelled down from Oxford to play the Organ.  The Mass was well-attended and we saw representatives from every decade between the 60s and 00s.  Click here to view a list of the old boys who attended Mass and click here to view some photographs taken at post-mass drinks.

WOBS City Lunch - was held on Thursday 28th February 2008 at Bow Wine Vault, 10 Bow churchyard, London EC4M 9DQ.  The event was a sell-out - although there were inevitably one or two no-shows on the actual day!  From the e-mails received into the WOBS office after the event, it was evident that the Lunch was thoroughly enjoyed by everyone who attended and we saw a good cross-section of ages representing all decades between the 60s and 00s.  We look forward to seeing more of you at the event next year.  Click here to see the List of Attendees, click here to read the Review written by John Griffith (B'76) and click here to view photographs taken at the Lunch.

Charlie Sacerello Memorial Day Memorial Rugby Match - was organised by Rob Cottrell and was held on Sunday 21st October 2007. Click here to read a Review by Rob Cottrell (R'97) who orchestrated an extremely successful and well attended event.
